That’s because in order to really know ourselves we need to be aware of our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions. We need to have a little bit of meta-cognition because that’s where we can learn to control our own behavior. But we also need to be aware of the things other people are doing to us that are affecting our behavior. We need to know what they are doing to us and what we are doing to them. That’s called “self-awareness.
