I’ve always been a fan of James Brown. I don’t know why. I guess it’s just the obviousness of the quote to me.
But James Brown is one of those musicians that I have a hard time describing in mere words, so let me give you a brief summary. He was a New Orleans based blues musician who was signed to the legendary Chess Records in 1959. The rest is history. He was married to the pop star Gladys Williams, and had a son, James Jr. He was known for his smooth smooth voice and a very sexy look.
I have yet to see a review of an album by someone like James Brown. I’m more than happy that the movie, I guess. It was based on a story that was written by a writer named James Brown who was born in New Orleans on the Mississippi River, and who was born and raised in Texas, a country where the Mississippi was a green belt populated by the Native American population. The film is a lot more than this.
I know that there have been a lot of films that have tried to deal with the same underlying philosophy, but this one is really the first time that I’ve heard someone say anything like this. Maybe its because the movie was based on a book that was written by James Brown.
Like most people, Brown was not a big fan of organized religion. He believed that Jesus Christ was the only one who could save people from the cycle of endless reincarnation, but he also believed that the Catholic church had the power to save their souls. It was Brown who helped found the Nation of Islam in 1966. I think he was the first person to argue that the Catholic church has a duty to evangelize.
Brown’s quote is from the book “We the People” by James T. Farrell, but it’s what he said about the Catholic church that really resonated with me. “The Catholic church has the power to save your soul, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has the power to save your soul, but there is no power at all to save your soul from the power of the devil.
The only time that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has ever been found to have the power to save your soul is when someone has been arrested for being the Prophet of Satan.
That’s right. I’m going to quote my favorite James T. Farrell quote from the film The Crow, because it really resonated with me. “The only thing that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint has ever saved is the lives of the people that they put in the church, by the way. Because the church has the power to save your soul, the church has the power to save your soul.
