It is so easy to get caught up and distracted by things we don’t want to do. Sometimes it’s hard to realize it’s because we’re just too busy. Other times, it’s just because we’ve lost the ability to stop and think about the right thing. How can we learn to do this? I’m going to share a few with you, and have you laugh a little while you discover them.
You would think that when we become aware of our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions then we can take charge of them, but it turns out that our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions are just habits, routines, impulses, and reactions. So if we can’t stop our habit of being distracted, we have to figure out how to stop our habit of being distracted.
This is why therapy works. We have to stop distracting our mind. You would think that with all the technology in our lives, that we would have the willpower to stop ourselves from being distracted, but in reality, we just keep on trying to use it, never knowing when it will fail us. And that’s why we have to learn to be aware of what we are doing, and to stop ourselves from doing it. We have to learn to stop.
We also have to realize that we are not the center of our own lives. We are only the center of our own thoughts and actions. So we have to start looking at our habits and routines as our own. We have to stop being the constant source of distraction to ourselves. We have to realize that we can’t just sit still and do nothing. We have to stop trying to control our own thoughts and actions. We have to learn to use them for good.
Many of you have read this book. What is it about the human mind that you want to learn? The author is a professor of philosophy at UC San Diego who is passionate about the world of human experience, and who has been working with the people who created a human consciousness for more than a century.
We all have a story, a backstory, or an experience that we wish to share with others. We all have our own personal and universal truths, and we wish to share them with others. We can call it by any name we like, but the truth of our experience is something that can only be shared in the most direct way possible.
We can call it a “crazy” therapy or a “psychedelic” therapy or a “quiz show” therapy or any other name we like, but the truth is that it is a truth that can only be shared with others in the most direct way possible. So let’s all join together and share our crazy, psychedelic, quiz-show, or whatever therapy we are all practicing with one another.
Let’s all share a different therapy. Let’s call it funny therapy.
Fun is a word that is often used to describe laughter. And as we all know, laughing is contagious, so we can use it to get our favorite quotes and stories into the minds of our fellow humans. We can use that to get our humor into our friends, or our enemies, or even our coworkers. But we can only do this with respect to the person whom we are laughing with. Funny therapy, or anything else that we are feeling, cannot be shared with anyone else.
Funny therapy is about getting a laugh out of someone, even if that person is our boss. Or our boss’s boss, or our friend’s friend, or our coworkers. We can get a laugh out of them, but we can only laugh with them. It’s about giving them a laugh.
